Her four-year-old daughter was beheaded in front of her eyes on March 28. Yet, Claire Wang responded to the senseless killing with a mother’s love.
Her touching Facebook posts have moved many in Taiwan and beyond, even as the nation grapples with the random act of violence and whether the killer deserves the death penalty.
The girl, nicknamed Little Light Bulb, was cycling near her mother when suspect Wang Ching-yu suddenly grabbed her from behind and cut her head off with a cleaver.
"Fortunately, I had held you tightly and told you I loved you every day," the 36-year-old captioned a photo of her child with her and her husband on Facebook the day after the murder. They have 3 other kids – a girl aged 9 and twins aged two – and she is a stay-at-home mother.
Since Little Light Bulb’s death, Claire’s page has celebrated her short life. “Please keep trusting people because society is still beautiful.” she wrote in one post, according to TVC Entertainment’s website.
“Please give your dearest family members a hug. That would be the most comforting and caring thing you could do for us.”
She said to reporters on March 29: "After the incident, many friends advised me to close my blog and Facebook page, but I really hope that her death can leave something behind, stir up some discussion, remind people of the importance of love, and call attention to the many issues in society."
